Terms of Use
Last updated: September 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading or using Wamū (the app), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
The app is built and maintained by patterueldev. These disclosures are reconciled with the app's bundled copy (MVP disclosure v3, September 14, 2026). They are product information, not legal advice.
2. The Service
Wamū is a personal budgeting and journaling tool. Shipped capabilities include:
- Recording expenses and income with optional notes
- Journal-first capture: free-text posts where incomplete entries remain valid
- A reverse-chronological feed as the primary surface
- Custom categories, monthly budgets, and a dashboard summary
- Offline-first local storage with optional private iCloud sync
Features and pricing may change as the product evolves. Anything not listed above — including receipt text recognition beyond on-device capture, external AI assistance, and subscription paywalls — should not be assumed available unless the current release notes say so.
3. Not Financial Advice
Wamū does not provide financial, tax, legal, or investment advice. Check entries, calculations, and subscription choices before relying on them. The app makes no promise about the reliability or accuracy of derived suggestions, and your use of the app is at your own risk.
4. Your Data and Your Responsibility
You control the information you enter and are responsible for keeping your device, Apple Account, and any exported backups secure. You are responsible for content you capture, import, store, sync, export, or otherwise use through Wamū — including photos, screenshots, documents, and other attachments. You must have the necessary rights and consent for that content, including the consent of any identifiable person depicted or described.
5. User Content and Acceptable Use
Wamū is a private personal budgeting and journaling tool. It is not a public content-hosting, social, messaging, or discovery service: journal entries and attachments are visible only to you, on your devices and in your private iCloud account when you enable sync. Wamū provides no public profiles, feeds, sharing, messaging, or content discovery, and no other user can see, receive, or discover your content through Wamū.
You must not use Wamū for unlawful content, including:
- Child sexual abuse or exploitation material
- Non-consensual intimate imagery
- Content that violates someone else's privacy
- Content that infringes intellectual-property rights
- Content prohibited by Apple or iCloud terms
6. Sync and Storage
Wamū offers optional private iCloud/CloudKit sync. When enabled, it keeps your budgeting data available across your Apple devices through your private iCloud account rather than a Wamū-operated account. Sync includes iCloud-account availability, sync status, conflict handling, and device-isolation controls. Disabling sync preserves your local data rather than deleting or overwriting it.
Wamū operates no servers that receive or host your journal data. Attachments you add are stored locally on your device; when you enable optional sync, attachment bytes are mirrored to your private CloudKit database on Apple infrastructure and remain subject to Apple's iCloud terms, including any applicable access, preservation, removal, or disclosure provisions.
7. Subscriptions and Purchases
Wamū is free during this initial phase. Optional paid plans may come later, with clear notice before anything requires payment. No subscription, trial, payment method, or charge applies unless a future release offers a paid plan and you choose it.
Where a subscription is offered in the current release, the following applies. You authorize payment when you subscribe. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, the selected plan auto-renews at its then-current price. Cancel in iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions before the trial ends to avoid the next charge. Plan availability and trial terms follow the shipped release and the App Store Connect configuration.
Apple handles App Store purchases, billing, cancellation, and eligible refunds under Apple's terms. Use Apple Support for billing help, subscription cancellation, or refund requests.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
The app is provided as is without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Any limitation or disclaimer in these disclosures applies only to the extent permitted by applicable law and does not limit rights or obligations that cannot be waived or limited under applicable law.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
